The Problem

The resource library was scattered and overwhelming, making it hard for students to quickly find crucial support materials.

Design Story

A needs analysis surfaced inconsistent layouts and duplicated content across pages — and no way to track engagement, since the Canvas course was public.

Complexity

I had to align diverse stakeholder goals — engagement, accessibility, and clear navigation — across a wide range of learner needs.

User-centered and iterative — collect feedback from student team members, lean on minimal text and interactive elements, and keep every resource accessible and engaging.

The Designed Solution

A redesigned set of Canvas pages — Time Management, Study Skills, Mental Health Tools, and more — with a streamlined interface, embedded interactive tools, and, via embedded Wix pages, analytics to track usage.

Design Decisions

  • Unified navigation and bite-sized content to cut cognitive load.
  • Added Genially and embedded video for hands-on practice and immediate feedback.
  • Built in analytics (the Wix-iframe method) and ran regular SME and peer reviews for accessibility and alignment.

The Result

A cohesive, user-centered hub that students actually navigate — and that the team can measure and improve.

Impact

Students find relevant content quickly, boosting performance and confidence, and BYU Online gained the ability to track engagement; the redesign increased utilization and improved learner outcomes.

Outcome

A lasting set of Canvas resource pages, put into production for BYU Online students.
